It’s sad, but true … it seems that money does make the world go around.
It’s what seems to drive people to make – lose then make – lose … and, so on … their money. It becomes an end rather than merely a means.
But, I have a slightly different view:
1. FIRST decide WHY you need the money … I call this Understanding Your Life’s Purpose
2. THEN decide HOW MUCH money you need in order to do whatever it is that you need the money for (and, by WHEN) … I call this Calculating Your Number
3. FINALLY, when you DO get to your Number, STOP and LIVE YOUR LIFE.
Well summarized and well said Adrian!
Funny you should mention this today, as I just had a serious conversation with a group of friends about #3.
We were discussing a show CNN aired a couple years back featuring, “Can Money Buy Happiness?”. It is discovered that money can buy happiness if you are in poverty. Then once you have basic human needs, more money is not the main factor in happiness.
What is? Friends and family. Relationships.
So, #3… I like how you say, “STOP… and LIVE YOUR LIFE”. I think it is very important to know when to say when. Because, it is… at least in my human nature, to want to keep on going. But, what good is it if I don’t enjoy what I’ve reaped?
Very well put, Adrian!
@ Christine – Thanks for your comments. It’s a kind of ‘live by the sword, die by the sword’ thing … some people only stop when they die.
