A journey with George …

Perhaps I just like this video because the ‘talking head’ is a fellow Aussie – although, I don’t know who he is or what his credentials are (I do know that if you watch all three of the videos listed on his blog you’ll end up with an ad for a new ‘personal finance’ educational board-game) …

… but, I do like his neat little whiteboard summary of the problem of ‘investing’ to chase capital appreciation. This was the sort of ‘wrong thinking’ that fueled the property market booms, both here and in Australia.

  1. Now I’m in suspense. Worst yet, he does not have a follow-up. Now I will be thinking of George all week because I was planning on being George. Now I want to see how to do it correctly.

  2. Hi Adrian,
Thanks for your kind comments about George and his journey. We’ve had quite a lot of positive feedback so we’re looking at continuing his journey through next year. I would be happy to have a talk with you about it and would value your comments and input into the types of topics which we could whiteboard through our method. We have lots of educational material which we’ve developed over the last eight years and now we’re looking at ways of making it available to people.
My background is in business more than financial planning and I am often troubled by the fees that the finance industry wants to charge people along the way. Also interesting that often fees are paid in CASH when the returns that are generated are NON CASH. Some where there is a road smash possibility if that keeps going.

  3. @ JE – Buy the boardgame πŸ™‚ or, wait for more videos (Andee’s comment seems to indicate more to come)

@ Andee – I’ll be back ‘downunder’ in the New Year so will look you up, then. But, it would be nice to have some ‘this is the solution’ videos, at the same high level as your excellent ‘this is the problem video’ … people will still look to you for the ‘how’ πŸ˜‰
