Is it become an expert in your chosen field, or become “perceived” as an expert? I think the latter, but maybe there isn’t a difference. And if you can’t, that will be obvious after a few mistakes.

Mind you, a smart person can take the the time to become an expert once they gain the reputation.

A good Companion to this writing would be how to get the(hopefully Free) advertising that the big decision makers will see,so they will be demanding those products and/or services.

Your posts are spot on Adrian!
A great way to gain “expert” status is to submit a talk at a conference about your industry.
Then make sure your talk is informative and ENTERTAINING and you will get calls left right and center to sit in on discussion panels, give talks, give advice etc.
I don’t know about other industries but conference organizers in my industry are always scrambling for speakers.

Thank you Adrian!!! This post nails the problem I’m having with my services business right on the head. The only problem is, I couldn’t see it until I read this.

I’ve tried some sales and marketing … and got nowhere on my limited budget. So, I’ve gone to networking events; but, have had no success.

Now I see what’s lacking, people see me and say “who is he?” instead of “he’s an expert.”

I’ll certainly be looking forward to the upcoming post.
