I totally agree. Even though I have debt and bills and such, when I get unexpected money I give my wife 10% of it and I take 10% of it and we go shopping, usually that day or soon after. I know it is not smart but it makes me keep going and keeps her happy on those days where I am running all day long.

BTW....none of those "cities" on that list were very large. I happen to think that my home town, Phoenix, is a great place to invest right now.

@ My Journey - Absolutely! I think it's always important to reward yourself for success .... take a look at the example which shows you how to ensure that you DO apply virtually 100% of a pay increase towards your debt, but it still FEELS like you've been very generous with yourself (because you spend most of the first week's increase, a little less of the second week's, and so on ...).

On the other hand, if it's a one-off windfall, then you want to apply more than 50% towards your debt (but, Ramit says no more than 75% ... and, I tend to agree)

AJC,

Do you think this post/idea still applies if you have consumer debt? or at the very very early states of 101?
